Please direct all comments, questions and concerns to my email: or

I want to thank EVERYONE for their hard work in band. It is not because of one person but because of the collective effort by all that we have been successful. If we can keep that up we will achieve greater heights. It is my hope that we can and I will give it my best effort. Come talk with me directly if you have any needs, questions, comments, concerns or complaints. Thank you EVERYONE for all that you do.

New music tomorrow.

Pep Band tomorrow

Volleyball game tomorrow. I need participants. It has been on the calendar. I need everyone who can to make it there tomorrow. Let us support our team, our school and each other. Let's do this, band! G-High!

Drum roll, please.

And...the winner is...Baritones! Yes, Sara and Jonathan really stepped up this week. Jonathan has been getting much better on his instrument and being heard. Way to go!

2-14, what can I say about her that I have not already said. Her dedication and commitment to this band is evident. Her leadership (although questioned by some) is improving and she did an admirable job this Friday. Very proud!

Great job, Baritone section!

Who will it be next week. It could be your section...keep up the hard work.

For Band!
For Glory!
For Granite!

Band Mascot

The band mascot will be Kewgy the Cougar.

Thank you!

Copy of letter sent home to parents:

Dear parents or guardians,

Thank you all for your continued support. I hope your child has been informing you of our successes  (and stumbles). Through it all, I am very happy with the direction we are heading. I spoke with some of you about the nature of band being like a shipping vessel and not a race car. Yet, this group of talented individuals has surprised me at every turn (pardon the pun). They are improving greatly in the short time I have had them. I hope that they communicate this to you. I hope you see this progress.

It is now time to make a commitment for your child’s education. We have been invited to compete in Hollywood, at Universal Studios. We are going with choir, under the direction of Mr. Churchill. It is a once in lifetime opportunity to push the limits of our students. I ask that you join me in leading our students down this path. The cost will be around $400-450, we have begun fundraising already. Our pancake breakfast at Applebee’s is on the calendar. I understand the financial burden that this endeavor requires from the family. Please, I would love it if with your help we can raise enough money to lower this cost down to about $125 per student. With sufficient fundraising, this is possible.

Ask your friends and neighbors if they would like to donate to this cause, talk to people at church, at your work, on the street (kidding), whomever you can and let them know we are seeking funds. We have our tax ID and can give receipts for tax purposes. If we can raise enough money we can add extra days. The festival is in April. We have time but we have to start today.

In order to secure a spot and make a down payment, we require a $25 deposit by October 5th. We have to make our first payment that week. Please, talk with me, as some have, if this will be problem. I want to take EVERY student. We can do this if we work together. Together, we can do anything. We need to inspire our children with our actions, help me do this for your child. Talk with me and help me find a solution, we can make this work.

Again, thank you for your continued support!

Go Cougars!

What a week! We had a performance at the Volleyball game and our performance at half time. Even though I had promised a win, what matters is how we played and cheered the crowd on. In that light, it was a win! You all did and amazing job of keeping up the spirits and having fun. I heard so many positive comments about your performance (even from the other team!). Color guard and Cheer were working well together. Our entry and exit were well performed and staged. We are a small but mighty band! Your sound was much stronger this time. Way to go! I am very proud of my Drum Majors, Sara and Chris. Thank you band for all you do!

This week: pep band on Tuesday, Fall Festival Thursday and homecoming game Friday. Whew! We can do it. We are Cougars! G-High!

Dear parents or guardians,

Thank you for your continued support. I appreciate your help in the organization of such a complicated endeavor. We are the heart of the school. We are the beat. We have been having a blast at the pep rallies and the crowd has been excited to watch and hear Band and Color Guard. I am very proud of the students. They are moving in the right direction. But now we have to continue, there is ever more work to be done.

After school practice, you need to be there or bring me a note. It is imperative that you are there. We need everyone there, together. Please, I ask that you make time, ask for help (if you need it), be at practice and not make an excuse. Anyone of us can make an excuse or we can be there. It is our responsibility. It is our choice. You need to ask your self where do you stand on this. Parents, if this is an issue you need to talk with me. I need to hold students accountable for not attending practice and games. I am announcing this formally. Again, if this is an issue, talk with me. Perhaps, band is not the place for your student to be successful. We need to have that conversation. I ask that you contact me if this is an issue.

Pancake fundraiser tickets. There are more ticket left. We need to make sure those tickets are sold. Talk to Vanessa and sign out a sheet of five. Get on it! We need to raise funds so that everyone goes with us to Hollywood. Ohana mean family, it means no one gets left behind. We need to make sure we raise enough money that no one gets left behind. That is our goal. Let's do this!!!

Go Cougars!

More to come...

Get it here first! Hot off the presses!

There is a parent meeting tomorrow - Sep. 14th, 5:30 pm. Please, students, talk to your parents about attending. We need more members. We also need to discuss fundraising and Festival.

Regarding Festival, tomorrow I will announce that Mr. Churchill and Choir have decided to change their destination from San Diego to Hollywood. Apparently, there are rumors that the Harry Potter theme portion of the Universal Studios will be open when we go. So...yeah. We are going to Hollywood! YAY!

In addition, I will be absent on Tuesday as I will be in court. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. I appreciate all of the kind words.

That is it! Check out the new changes to the website.

See ya tomorrow!
